Having recently ventured to Al Madinah for a business trip, I spent a few nights at Hostel 35, which presented a mixed bag of experiences. The central location made it convenient for my archaeological interests, being just a stone's throw from significant sites like Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. The shared bathroom was adequately clean, with functioning bidets, which I appreciated during my stay. During my time there, I encountered Zakariya, who was exceptionally polite and genuinely helpful—a plus in such busy accommodations. The air conditioning was impressive, providing a cool retreat from the heat outside, and the hostel offered unlimited cold filtered water, which was perfect for staying hydrated in the warm climate. Plus, having a grocery store and a sandwich shop just blocks away added to the convenience. While Hostel 35 was reasonably priced, I would advise future guests to be prepared for the realities of hostel life and not to expect a high-end hotel amenity experience. If traveling with companions or colleagues who appreciate cultural nuances, they may find that the essence of the atmosphere retains a certain charm, despite being basic. While there were some flaws, I believe for young travelers seeking affordable accommodation in the heart of historic Al Madinah, this can be a viable option.
